Our Story: A Legacy of Love, A Future of Hope
Family Life Project was born from a simple conversation over dinner. Rev. Willie Davis Jr. and his wife, Brenda sat at their kitchen table, their hearts heavy with concern for the families they saw struggling in their community. Children without guidance. Parents without resources. Families breaking under the weight of challenges they couldn't face alone.
"What if," Brenda asked, "we could create a place where families felt supported, not judged? Where could they find help, hope, and healing?"
That question became their calling. With deep faith, limited resources, and boundless determination, Rev. Davis and Brenda founded Family Life Project as a ministry dedicated to one mission: building stronger families every day.
-
The early days were humble. They started with after-school programs in church basements and parenting workshops in community centers. Rev. Davis brought his pastoral heart and gift for connecting with youth, while Brenda's background in education shaped their approach to family learning. Together, they built something remarkable—not just programs, but relationships. Not just services, but a community.
Word spread. Families who felt lost found direction. Youth who felt invisible found purpose. Parents who felt overwhelmed found support. What began as a small ministry grew into a comprehensive family support organization offering youth development, family counseling, parenting workshops, and educational resources.
-
Throughout it all, their daughter Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, MSW, watched and learned. She grew up in the organization—literally. As a child, she'd help set up chairs for workshops. As a teenager, she volunteered with youth programs. As a young adult, she witnessed firsthand the transformative power of her parents' work.
"I saw families come to us broken and leave whole," she recalls. "I saw children who believed they had no future discover their potential. My parents didn't just run an organization—they changed lives. That legacy became my inheritance and my responsibility."
After her education and experiences in Social Work/Family Studies/relevant field, Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, MSW, joined Family Life Project professionally, working alongside her parents to expand their reach and impact. She brought fresh perspectives while honoring the foundational principles her parents established: compassion without judgment, quality without compromise, and faith in every family's potential to thrive.
-
When Rev. Willie Davis Jr. passed away, the organization mourned not just a founder but a father figure to countless families. Yet even in grief, his vision lived on. Brenda and Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, MSW, continued the work, driven by the belief that the best way to honor his memory was to serve with the same passion he had shown.
As Brenda began to step back from daily operations, it became clear that Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, MSW, was not just the natural successor—she was the right leader for Family Life Project's next chapter. Trained by her parents, shaped by their values, and equipped with both formal education and lived experience, she understood the heart of the organization while possessing the vision to take it forward.
-
Today, Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, serves as continuous Founder of Family Life Project, carrying forward the ministry her parents began while adapting to the evolving needs of today's families. Under her leadership, the organization has:
Expanded digital resources and online family education programs
Strengthened partnerships with libraries, schools, and community centers
Developed specialized programs addressing modern family challenges
Maintained the personal, compassionate approach that has always defined their work
"My parents taught me that organizations don't change lives—relationships do," Krystalyn Davis, LCSW, MSW, explains. "Every family that walks through our doors, fills out a form, or attends a program isn't just a client or a number. They're someone's child, someone's parent, someone's future. That's how my parents saw people, and that's how we still see them today."
-
Family Life Project remains rooted in the principles Rev. Davis and Brenda established: faith, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to family empowerment. But the organization is also evolving, meeting families where they are in an increasingly complex world.
From youth development programs that help children discover their potential, to parenting workshops that equip parents with practical tools, to family counseling that heals broken relationships, to educational resources that build financial literacy and healthy relationships—Family Life Project continues to be a beacon of hope for families in need.
-
Whether you're a parent seeking guidance, a youth looking for direction, or a family in crisis needing support, Family Life Project welcomes you. We carry forward a legacy of love that began in a small kitchen with two people who dared to dream of stronger families.
That dream lives on. And we invite you to be part of it.
